Some of my Favourite Spring Jackets

IMG_9247The weather has been absolutely beautiful in London this week. The sun is shining and all those heavy layers have finally been discarded and banished to the loft.

So it’s time for a whole new set of wardrobe staples to get some use!

Here are a few of my favourite (and most commonly used) spring coats and jackets. Continue reading

I’m Lusting After… A Céline Pochette

IMG_2498

I first saw this pouch on a very stylish friend of mine. After she bought it I never saw her carrying anything else.

It’s not at all the sort of thing I would normally go for, it just seemed really small and I couldn’t believe she could fit everything she needed in it, but she insisted she could.

After a while I started to think it was rather beautiful – very understated, minimalist and elegant. Continue reading

I’m Lusting After… The Loewe Amazona

If you’re thinking of investing in a luxury leather handbag and you’re not sure which one to go for, you really can’t go wrong with the Loewe Amazona.

Named after the strong woman it was designed for, the Amazona epitomises the new found liberty of the Spanish female in post Franco Spain. This bag is a symbol of equality and independence and should really be bought by a woman, for herself.

Dropping a grand or in some cases nearer two or even three for a handbag (ahem, thank you Chanel) is a serious business. You need to make sure that what you buy is fantastic quality. That it’s classic, elegant and will never go out of fashion. Ever.

Your choice of bag has to be worth the dough you’re handing over for it and I think this bag really is.

Sumptuous Scarves

It’s felt like October in London for about 6 months now. Spring just won’t come.

So it’s lucky I’m a big fan of scarves. I have hundreds of them. Well not hundreds, but let’s just say they take up a fairly significant amount of space in my wardrobe. This is no accident. It’s because scarves are magic – they can make or break an otherwise dull or beautiful outfit.

Here are a few of my favourites.

Perfect Pyjamas

Hush Vintage Rose Pyjamas

The weather is changing. Winter is finally upon us here in London, after it seemed like it might not come at all this year. But it’s here and the central heating has come on, as have the UGG boots and the winter coats. But the one thing I really relish in winter is being able to cosy up in bed in my favourite pyjamas with a hot chocolate and a kindle.

Hush Nightsky Pyjamas

I’m a firm believer in a good pair of pyjamas. I’m not one of those girls who can happily sleep in a pair of old leggings and a t-shirt. I love pyjamas. Especially in winter when a soft pair of fleecy pyjamas can be so warm and comforting.

I have about six pairs altogether for both winter and summer (all of which were bought on sale). The patterns on them vary from starry, to polka dots, to flowers, to pinstripes (I love these and have a couple of them). The more masculine and oversized the better. Continue reading

The Perfect Pair of Jeans

James Jeans Twiggy Royale

Over the years I have purchased, worn and attempted to squeeze into many a pair of jeans. I’ve tried a million different brands including 7 For All Mankind (I wore through 3 pairs), Citizens of Humanity, True Religion (I got tired of having horseshoes on my ass), Paige Premium Denim (too binding, sitting was tricky) just to name a few.

7 For All Mankind were my jeans of choice for years, they were comfortable and flattering but wore through quite quickly and I would soon have to purchase a new pair, which was irritating as they weren’t exactly giving them away.

After losing weight, then gaining weight, then losing weight again I was on the hunt for a pair of jeans that would still fit if I gained or lost a few pounds, as I do this routinely. I suspect most women do. Continue reading

The best basics…

I tend to structure my outfits the same way everyday, come rain or shine.

Calvin Klein Vests

I’ll wear a vest or t-shirt, with a cashmere or merino wool jumper over it and then throw on some jeans, leggings or a skirt accordingly.

This makes dressing very easy indeed as long as you have good comfortable basics –  good vests, t-shirts, jumpers, leggings etc. It also means you’re ready for anything because you can shed and add layers very easily.

Topshop Basic Vest

After messing around with women’s ‘tops’ (the kind that have three-quarter length sleeves, are completely skin tight, reveal every possible sweat patch and are unwearable if you’ve had a big lunch) I decided I would stick to the classics – t-shirts and shirts. If it’s good enough for all the men out there, it’s good enough for me.

I went in search of the best ones I could find, so I would have a foundation for every outfit without having to look too far in the mornings. Continue reading

The Perfect Cashmere

It’s starting to get very cold in London. VERY cold. The sheepskins, furs (fake and real) and UGGs are out in force and require backup in the form of cashmere.

I find that wool simply won’t do the job when the weather takes a turn for the arctic. You need cashmere. Sometimes I find, even on the coldest of days, that if I wear cashmere with one of my warmer jackets – I can get too hot!

There’s something about its softness and warmth that simply can’t be beaten during the winter months. It feels like snuggling into a warm bath every time you put some on. And from about October to March I live in a selection of cashmere sweaters. Continue reading

My Favourite Winter Coats

I really rather like winter. Hot chocolate, Christmas lights, cuddling up under a blanket on the sofa and watching films.

Mince pies, mulled wine… I could go on.

But one of my favourite things about winter is that I get to wear all my cosy coats.

I’m a bit of a coat and jacket fanatic – I have an entire wardrobe dedicated only to them. My friends often comment that I turn up in a different one everyday. The reason for this is very simple. Whether you’ve gained or lost a few pounds (unless the change is dramatic), your beloved coats will still fit you. And will hopefully make you look lean and fabulous. Continue reading
